I have been fortunate to have joined this church in 2004 and began leading the men's Sunday School class in 2005. I have experience teaching Bible Studies for over 15 years, having worked as a layperson with the Navigators in the 1980s and 90s. I was blessed to have attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary for 2 full years.
The NT outlines 2 church offices 1.Elder/Bishop/Overseer/Presbyter/Pastor 2.Deacon/Minister
The role of Elder/Bishop/Overseer/Presbyter/Pastor in the church is distinguished from the role of deacon/minister in two ways: -called to lead/rule -responsible to preach and teach
The role of deacon/minister is described as helping and serving believers in the church.
Here are some great references: 1 Timothy 3 & 5 Titus 1 Ephesians 4:11 1 Peter 5:1-5 Acts 20:17-35
The question is whether or not there is supposed to be one pastor/elder like in our current config, or multiple. It seems to me that letters are often addressed to "elders" (plural). Though it can be argued that where Paul refers to multiple elders/pastors he is speaking to multiple churches that resided in the same city. What does everyone else think?
